Kickoff reception last night

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Our kickoff reception last night got the campaign off to a great start.  We talked about the need to reduce spending, encourage job growth and improve education.  Thanks for the outstanding hors d’oeuvres provided by Chris and Jeff Gibson and Capers Catering.

Big turnout for candidate forum

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Energy filled the room at The Orchard restaurant and banquet hall in Baldwin last night.  The large turnout left people standing to listen as candidates fielded questions for about 2 hours.  Voters are concerned about the expansion of government, taxes, the economy and jobs.  Since the legislature raised taxes by over $5 billion, one of Baldwin’s large employers announced the closure of their Wisconsin plant.  Clopay will consolidate their manufacturing jobs in Ohio at the cost of over 300 jobs in our area.  People in Baldwin understand too well the negative effects of increasing taxes and regulations.

Our country has suffered the loss of thousands of manufacturing jobs during the current recession.  But Wisconsin has lost more than Minnesota.  More than Iowa.  More than Illinois.  Even more than Michigan.  In Wisconsin for the first time we now have more government jobs than we have manufacturing jobs!  It is time for a new direction in Madison.  Lower taxes, more jobs and improved education.

Great evening at Spring Banquet in Ellsworth Saturday

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

The Pierce County Spring Banquet was a huge success with a large crowd and lots of excitement.  Thanks to all our volunteers who helped get out the word about our campaign .  Since our steering committee first met 10 days ago we have accomplished an amazing amount.  We had supporters wearing red “Team Dean” t-shirts, the walls were decorated with our signs, and we had our first literature piece on the tables.  This was the largest turnout for this banquet in several years.  Kudos to the RPPC for putting together such a successful event.

Kitty Rhoades was in attendance and the crowd gave her a well deserved ovation for her years of service.  Kitty has been a strong voice for western Wisconsin for 12 years.  We need to elect a strong leader with a proven record to take her place representing the 30th District.  The people at the banquet were energized and ready to get to work.  (more…)

Knudson To Run For 30th State Assembly Seat

Hudson Mayor and veterinarian Dean Knudson announced today he is running for the 30th Wisconsin State Assembly seat being vacated by Kitty Rhoades (R).

In separate events in River Falls and Hudson, Knudson spoke before groups of community members, supporters, and members of the press.

“We face enormous challenges in our state today and it is time to move Wisconsin in a new direction.” said Knudson. “That is why I am announcing my candidacy for the State Assembly.”

Knudson has spent the last few weeks traveling throughout the district while considering a run for the state legislature. “As I have listened and talked with people throughout the district, it is clear that people are very concerned with direction government has taken and the impact it has had on their families.” said Knudson.

The economy and jobs, tax relief and improving education are critical issues in the district and will be the focus of Knudson’s campaign.

“My background as a small business owner gives me an understanding of how tax and regulatory burdens affect our employers, their families and our local economy.” said Knudson. “It is time to move Wisconsin in a new direction…lower taxes, more jobs, better schools.”

Dean Knudson will bring extensive business and leadership experience with him to Madison. He is a veterinarian, has been a successful small business owner and currently serves as mayor of the City of Hudson. Dean has been married to Joy for 22 years and they have two children Sonya (21) and Reed (18).

Knudson is running as a Republican candidate.

The 30th Assembly district includes all or part of Hudson, River Falls, Prescott, Ellsworth, and Somerset.
