Jobs and the Economy

We have lost over 180,000 jobs in Wisconsin in the last few years.  Over 130,000 in the last year alone.  Our unemployment rate is 9%.  Wisconsin has been one the highest taxed states for years.  On top of that the legislature increased taxes another $3 billion last year.  We must work together to get spending under control and reduce the tax burden.  Our policies must encourage job growth in the private sector.

Tax Relief

We must reform the destructive tax policies that are chasing our employers from Wisconsin.  My top priority is to cut taxes and implement reform measures that will unleash the innovative, creative power of our free enterprise system.

Improving Education

We need to prepare ourselves and our children to successfully compete in a global economy.  We’ll need to work together to improve our schools and universities while protecting our taxpayers.  That means expanding programs that have proven successful like charter schools, virtual schools and school choice.  As suggested by President Obama, Wisconsin needs to couple student achievement to the evaluations and rewards given to teachers.

With two children in the UW system this fall, I understand the need to keep our universities affordable for Wisconsin families.
